When something doesn't quite feel right

Making sense of what you're noticing and finding a way forward that feels more manageable.

PARENT SUPPORT AT FLOREO

You may not be completely sure what is going on.

Only that something feels harder than expected - and that you would like to understand more.

Often, families arrive here after trying many different approaches already. You may have received advice that works well for other children, but somehow does not seem to fit your own.

That experience can feel confusing, exhausting, and at times, quite isolating.

Many families find themselves asking these questions — often after trying a number of strategies already. There is rarely one simple explanation for why things may feel difficult.

In many cases, what sits beneath behaviour is not immediately visible from the outside. For some children, the world can feel emotionally, socially, or developmentally more demanding than it appears to others.

YOU MIGHT BE NOTICING

Signs that may bring families here

Big emotions that seem to arrive quickly or feel difficult to contain

School reluctance, overwhelm, or avoidance

Friendship difficulties or feeling left out socially

Strong reactions that seem larger than the situation itself

A feeling that something does not quite fit, even if it is difficult to put into words

A sense that your child is working much harder than others simply to get through the day

Sometimes these concerns are obvious. At other times, they are quieter and harder to name.

A DIFFERENT WAY OF UNDERSTANDING

Behaviour is often the surface expression of something deeper

Children differ in how they:

  • process information

  • regulate emotions

  • manage sensory experiences

  • navigate social expectations

  • respond to stress and overwhelm

When these differences are not fully understood, children can begin to feel misunderstood, “wrong,” or constantly under pressure - even when they are trying very hard.

WORKING TOGETHER

Support is not only about what happens within therapy sessions. It also involves helping the adults around a child feel equipped, informed, and less alone in navigating challenges.

The aim is to create a shared understanding that helps children feel safer, more connected, and better understood across home, school, and relationships.

Support extends beyond the therapy room

More supported in day-to-day moments

More informed about what may be driving behaviour

More confident in responding to your individual child

Less alone in navigating challenges

The aim is to create a shared understanding that helps children feel safer, more connected, and better understood - across home, school, and relationships.

You do not need to have
everything figured out first.

Sometimes parents contact Floreo Child & Family Psychology with very specific concerns. At other times, there is simply a sense that something is harder than it should be.

Both are valid places to begin.

If you are wondering whether support might be helpful, you are very welcome to get in touch. We can talk through what you are noticing and consider whether an appointment may be a useful next step.
